Location, location, location! And that's what sets this Pinot Grigio apart from others in a crowded field. I've always sought the crisp, mineral style of Alto Adige wines with their Germanic influence, that is until I tasted this gem from Friuli. Fourth generation winemakers sourcing grapes from 20-year-old vines ventilated by sea breezes that allow for fragrant wines with unmistakable taste. Clean, crisp aromas of apple, citrus and peach carry over to a round and refreshing palate. Weeks of tasting and I've yet to discover what it won't pair with!
Château Cabrières - Le Petit Cabrières Vin de Pays de VaucluseÂ

A real find at such a great price. I have had past vintages of this wine but was blown away by the current offering. The humbly named Le Petit Cabrieres, (The little goat farm) has quite a pedigree. Three generations of the Arnaud family have been working their vineyards around the renowned village of Chateauneuf-du-Pape for three generations. This blend of Grenache and Cinsault is a pleasing balance of red fruit and blackberries. A hint of violet aroma and smooth tannins lead to a long spicy finish. An excellent pairing for anything from slow cooked meats, mediterranean, and vegetarian dishes. Enjoy!

This lovely and elegantly styled Pinot Noir is a product of the highly regarded Evening Land Vineyards in Oregon. Made from the younger vines of the Seven Springs Estate, this aromatic and refined red (92% Pinot Noir and 8% Gamay Noir) is an easy drink at an early age. There are fruity overtones of Bing cherries and hints of raspberries. The aftertaste is soft, round and long. Try this Pinot with salmon, chicken and lighter pasta dishes.

Haut-Vigneau is the personal project of Eric Perrin, the kind-hearted gentleman and longtime friend of CW who owns Château Carbonnieux in Pessac-Léognan. Located just half a mile from its more well-known sibling, Haut-Vigneau produces a beautifully fresh white wine made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. The former provides the citrus aromas and a mouthwatering lemony zing, while the Sémillon provides a touch of weight and richness. White Bordeaux of this quality, at this price, is an absolute steal.
Italy
Bordiga has been producing vermouths and liqueurs in Cueno in the foothills of the Alps since 1888. This location among the famous wine-producing regions of Langhe, Roero and Barolo is on display in this traditional alpine liqueur. The majority of the herbs are hand-foraged, and Bordiga is the only cultivator of the protected genepy plant in Italy, which they grow at high altitude above 2000 meters. In addition, Monasticus Centum Herbis features wild alpine peppermint, thyme, eucalyptus, chamomile, wormwood, fennel, lavender, nutmeg, cinnamon, and juniper among many botanicals. Each ingredient is individually infused into organic wheat spirit for 20-50 days in stainless steel, before being paper-filtered and blended. The result is a perfectly balanced blend of bitter chinchona and gentian, fresh and cooling peppermint and eucalyptus, and floral genepy. Bordiga’s rendition of centerbe is lower in alcohol and thus more approachable, but certainly not lacking in flavor.

If there exists such a thing as a sub-$100/bottle Bourbon steal, then this is it. I'm a longtime Old Forester fan, and this single barrel that CW chose is magnificent. Don't be put-off by the high proof (132); as I've said for years, 'proof carries flavor' and this is an immensely flavorful Bourbon which can always be tempered with a little filtered water if you so choose. It has rich flavors and compelling aromas, big but graceful on the palate. Do not miss this, Bourbon fans!
