Wine Advocate: 95 Points
The superb and harmonious 2020 Mencía de Espanillo was produced with 85% Mencía, 15% Garnacha Tintorera and a little Godello from old vines in the village of Espanillo at 700 meters in altitude, where the soils are decomposed slate. It fermented in a 5,000-liter oak vat and matured in 2,500-liter oak foudres for 16 months. It has 13.5% alcohol and very good freshness and acidity, not showing any heat or excess ripeness. It has a medium-bodied palate with abundant, serious and austere tannins.
