The 2018 Clos Badon-Thunevin is gorgeous. Ripe, supple and inviting, the 2018 is a total knock out. Sweet dark cherry, new leather, licorice and chocolate all build in the glass. In 2018, Clos Badon is 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc. More Franc than normal gives the wine gorgeous aromatic nuance and also a bit more tannin that needs to soften. There is a lot to look forward to.
Another hedonist superstar in the vintage is the 2018 Clos Badon Thunevin, which comes from the team of Jean-Luc Thunevin and is mostly Merlot with roughly 30% Cabernet Franc. Loads of chocolaty red and black fruits give way to a full-bodied 2018 with loads of spice, tobacco, and incense notes, a layered, rich mid-palate, sweet tannins, and a great finish. If you like your Saint-Emilion with plenty of fruit and texture as well as balance and freshness, give this beauty a whirl! It will keep for 10-15 years.
Weighing in with 15% declared alcohol, the 2018 Clos Badon Thunevin has a deep garnet-purple color. It leaps from the glass with notes of ground cloves, star anise and baked blackberries with hints of prunes, fallen leaves and graphite. The full-bodied palate has a beautifully plush texture and bags of juicy black fruits with a lively line to lift the long, spicy finish.
This has a nice winey feel to it, with kirsch and cassis notes tightly framed by accents of singed apple wood, floral and red tea. Subtle mineral edge through the finish. Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
