The flagship 2019 Saint Joseph Le Paradis Saint Pierre ranks with the crème de la crème of the vintage, yet like most of the top wines, it's going to need bottle age. Deep ruby/purple-hued, it offers a gorgeous nose of black raspberries, cassis, cured meats, crushed stone, pepper, and dried flowers. Full-bodied, concentrated, and structured, it has the ripe, up-front, spicy fruit that's the hallmark of the vintage as well as the firmer, building tannins that will require at least 4-5 years of bottle age. This is stunning, though, and well worth seeking out.
Scents of crushed stone, violets, black cherries and mocha mark the nose of the 2019 Saint Joseph le Paradis Saint Pierre. While it's super ripe and concentrated, this full-bodied effort also boasts reasonably supple tannins and a gently expansive mouthfeel, culminating in a long, softly tannic finish. Give it another few years in the cellar if you have the patience, and you should be rewarded. Tasted twice (once blind), with consistent notes.
Incisive aromas of fresh dark berries, cherry, incense and potpourri, with exotic spice notes building in the glass. Intense, spice- and mineral-accented cassis, bitter cherry, olive paste and violet pastille flavors are energized by a core of juicy acidity and a late kick of black pepper. Closes very long and emphatically floral, showing a smoky mineral quality, building sweetness and discreet, even tannins that build slowly. Made with 50% whole clusters.
