100% Pinot Noir from three-tenths of a hectare (three-fourths of an acre) of old vines planted in 1905, the vines are grown on the steepest slopes of Ambonnay. Fermented in neutral oak barrels, the wine sports an intense ruby color, opening with a deep, beautifully sweet and concentrated, almost floral bouquet of ripe, tart cherries, cloves, along with truffles, fennel, and sweet spices. Very refined and fresh, it’s well-structured on the palate with the overall impression being like that of a very fine Burgundy. The notable difference being that the chalky soil of Ambonnay offers more brightness and lift to the wine then you’d normally get from the limestone of the Côte d'Or. The texture is mouth-filling, with the firm ripe tannins perfectly aligned giving the wine a gentle grip, it moves through the gears towards a long and graceful finish. An absolute beauty by any metric, it opens gracefully with a little decanting for immediate enjoyment, but will handsomely reward anyone with the patience to wait another five to seven years.
