The 2009 Vray Croix de Gay is a wine, is a wine of immense precision, beauty, charm and grace, the epitome of what a great Pomerol can be. It comes from an 8-acre micro-estate, with two incomparable gravel plots, one behind Pétrus in a terroir similar nearby Château Lafleur, and a second near Château Trotanoy and Le Pin. It was recently acquired in part by Bordeaux first growth Chateau Latour, a testament to its quality. Made from 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, it offers up luxurious and gorgeous notes of deep black/blue fruit, plums, and cassis, while at the same time retaining a freshness and vibrancy that eludes even some of the very greatest 2009 Pomerols. Moreover, like some of the greatest wines of both 1982 and now 2009, this wine promises to be immensely enjoyable at every stage of its development. In fact, I urge you to try a bottle from your collection without undue delay – this is a phenomenally enjoyable young a wine, yet also one with many years of glorious imbibing ahead of it.

"This blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc displays loads of power, structure and impressive density. The color is a healthy dark ruby/purple, and the wine offers up notes of black fruits, charcoal and forest floor. It is full-bodied and moderately tannic, but the low acidity and alcohol levels give it a certain accessibility. This is a sleeper of the vintage in Pomerol and possibly the best wine I have tasted from this estate. Give it several years of bottle age and drink it over the following 12-15 years."
