Given how big our Pinot program is relative to our two other varietals, we have the ability to be very selective when determining what goes into the single vineyard wines. This has always made our Sonoma Coast bottling an incredible value given its price to quality relationship. Just like with the appellation Chardonnay, the goal here is zero to little new oak and a fresh fruit character that shows site and varietal first. Juicy and concentrated, this bottling drinks well out of the gate but time has shown it can easily age for 15+ years.
Magenta-colored, the 2022 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast also reveals aromas of candied berries as well as red and black raspberries, with a pleasing lift on the nose. Medium-bodied, it is well-structured, with ripe, fine tannins, great freshness and good acidity, and a lovely, long finish. It’s really showing well and is going to have great potential. This is a wine to snap up if you have the opportunity – it really has a stamp of quality that notches things up a level.
The 2022 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is fabulous. Succulent dark cherry, plum, mocha, spice and leather are dialed up. What a wine. The 2022 possesses superb depth and textural richness. Best of all, it is a screaming value. Maybe the best value in all of Sonoma Pinot Noir. In 2022, all of the fruit is from Riddle, a blend of Mt. Eden, 828 and Pommard clones, done in neutral oak. There's a bit of tannin in the 2022, a touch more than most years, so a year or two in bottle seems warranted.
